Project RootTech
Project Overview
A college project involving 8 students, who gathered together and raised funds for underprivileged children to take a digital literacy course by ICDL. These children attended the classes for a month and graduated with globally recognized certificates.
Project Timeline
Project RootTech lasted from January 2022 to June 2022. We first begun by brainstorming ideas on how to carry our goals forward, and decided to fund the children of BJCK (Buku Jalanan Chow Kit), a non-profit organization providing underprivileged children with education opportunities.
We took three to four weeks marketing our projects to several people both online and in campus, raising awareness for the importance of digital education. Our project was spread using social media platforms including Instagram and WhatsApp, and we hosted a fundraising game tournament at the end of February. By mid-March, we managed to raise RM2,250, and this was enough to fund 5 children to attend an ICDL course.
Project Conclusion
The 5 children from BJCK registered for a digital literacy course by ICDL, and attended lessons both online on Microsoft Teams, as well as coming to the MCKL campus for hands-on classes in the computer labs.
By early June, they had finished their ICDL course and took an exam to be able to get a globally recognized digital literacy certificate, which will help them in their future endeavors. This is where Project RootTech has its conclusion and comes to a close.
